The Science for Life Laboratory (https://www.scilifelab.se/ (https://www.scilifelab.se/)) is a national center for molecular life sciences focusing on research in health and the environment. The center combines leading technical expertise with advanced knowledge in translational medicine and molecular life sciences. SciLifelab is a national resource operated by Karolinska Institutet, KTH, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. The center collaborates with several other institutions.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a Unit Manager focused on cryo-EM methods and data analysis. The Unit Manager will lead the data collection group for the cryo-EM unit established within the framework of SciLifeLab Solna, which is focused on providing service to national and international users.

As a Unit Manager, you will be responsible for planning ongoing activities in the lab team to ensure that we can deliver high-quality data to our users using the best possible approaches and tools. You are expected to coach and motivate the group to work towards the set goals of the operation. Practically, the work includes team leadership as well as responsibility for receiving users, planning and designing cryo-EM projects, data collection, data handover, and consulting for data analyses. Additionally, it involves managing microscopes, discussions with microscope manufacturers and engineers. Furthermore, some development of new methods and collaboration with economists at the department for managing user fee invoices is included.

The position entails personnel responsibility, which includes ensuring that staff are well taken care of. Documentation, communication, and team spirit are important for us to achieve our goals, and we therefore prefer candidates who align with these guiding principles.

Qualifications

Requirements: PhD in biology, biophysics, or related fields. Furthermore, you should have excellent knowledge in structural biology and cryo-electron microscopy. Strong leadership skills, decision-making ability, and experience from service-oriented operations are required. You should be accustomed to working in collaborative projects with users.

You also possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, and you should be able to write and speak English fluently.

Meritorious: Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as a sense of responsibility, flexibility, and problem-solving ability. Experience in other structural biology techniques and data analysis is a plus.

About the Employment

The position is permanent full-time with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as soon as possible.
